Trying to eliminate Saddam, extending the ground war into an occupation of Iraq... would have incurred incalculable human and political costs.

Had we gone the invasion route, the United states could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land

But have you ever read your soul?

You visit temples, mosques and churches

But have you visited the depths of your heart?

You go around fighting against Satan

But have you ever tried fighting against yourself?

STATEMENT ON THE MURDER OF RACHEL CORRIE

November 9th, 2005  Liberty, Equality, Fraternity - France is burning
France is burning once again, as the French Government is trying to muffle the voices of the disenfranchised, people of ethnic backgrounds. Is it French snobbery and arrogance or delusion of ethno-religious superiority of the French Government. The cry of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity once again rings through corners of France again. While the French have been very vocal of their criticism of Americans and other States, their own house is in disarray and reeks of bigotry. But then the French have the legacy of Marie Antoinette to their credit, who rhetorically asked the poor to eat cake if they could not afford to buy bread. France should hear the voices of its under class. If the raging fires of  France are not controlled  they may spread through out Europe. The current situation in France should not be managed but provided with a permanent solution. Management of a situation is usually a temporary solution to a systemic problem. We are in a time when human rights cannot be denied based on color, creed,  religion or economic strength. Draconian laws cannot muffle or silence the cry that rises from the street. The street regardless of which neighborhood or country is the pulse of that nation. The inhabitants of Elysee Palace may sleep comfortably for now, but that comfort may not last if the street does not hum with peace and calm and equality.

October 26th, 2005 What Next
We have been in a state of inertia, disgruntled with so many things. Today should we cry or sing hail to the chief when
2001 brave dead and 203 Billion yes billion dollars spent on war and the count rising on both fronts. Is war worth the sacrifice? while nature is taking a different type of toll in the form of hurricanes. Do we have more terrorism in the world then there was four years ago?

September 23, 2005  Katrina and now Rita
Prez is taking special interest in Rita hmmm may be she is impacting a better blow job for him, isn't that what the hurricane said to the palm tree --- hold on to your nuts this is going to be one hell of a blow job. Or is the special interest generated because that is his home state?
Hurricane, cyclones, or tornadoes they can all be devastating. Katrina did a lot, much of the devastation came from lack of planning. Now for the religious, and bible thumping folks reading this blog. Katrina was sent by God to punish y'all and to the agnostics and the lefties, the street means the sane ones, these hurricanes are weather phenomenon that can be destructing to anything in its path... we all know that except the religious folks. This time Noah's Ark was missing along with the National Guard. Holly Cow this time we are better organized because its hitting Houston in Texas. Just heard on CNN that they even evacuated some bulls. Could bulls be more precious then the black poor New Orleans .... hmmmm. Cosby said it best the other night, that if you do not vote that is what you get and we all know what he was talking about .... do we get it now? In the end lets all hope Rita looses steam by dawn. Hope all animals and birds are safe, humans can look out for themselves.

September 08, 2005 Bureaucracy has committed murder in Louisiana?

September 05, 2005  Charity begins at home?
The old adage, "Charity begins at home", yet we are dragging our feet in providing help and aid to the victims of Katrina. How many of you know that we give $15,139,178 per day to Israel? Yes that is Fifteen Million Dollars and not a typo. That totals to $5.4 billion a year. These numbers are from a 1997 report.  The blacks of New Orleans do not seem to be a priority for any agency. We do see politicians going to Louisiana for photo-ops, but our leader and President has yet to set foot in New Orleans. Does anyone know why? While we are  focused on human misery, seems animals are being left out especially pets that people adopted. Wish some dog/cat food manufacturing company would spend some of their advertising budget to rescue pets. We suggest to our readers to send out emails to manufacturers of dog/cat food to donate resources for animal rescue.

September 04, 2005 City of Rhythm and Blues mourns
Who plays "When The Saints Go Marching In"
Click on icon to play or right click to download to your computer for the dead of New Orleans. No dirges rise from the streets of the city of rhythm and blues. Silence and the echo of cries for help cascade above waves of dead bodies drifting in the streets of New Orleans. No one sings "Lord I want to be in that number, "When the saint go marchinŽin."

Funeral jazz bands of the South expressed death, sorrow, and the joy of passing over to the other side. Today, sadly, the tragedy of New Orleans is the un-ceremonial treatment of the dead as they float on waves of pain and desolation. Who will trumpet the saints marching in New Orleans? The plight of the petrified living is reflected in the lyrics "All my folks have gone before me, All my friends and all my kin;" Click on icon to play or right click to download to your computer

Conservative Chief Justice Rehnquist, died last night, will he find himself waiting inline at the pearly gates of heaven among the poor blacks whom he felt should have separate but equal education? Is heaven separate but equal in judgment? Is there a separate black and white but equal God in heaven?

Look at this poor terrified dog, still loyal to the place he/she lived. Lets us not forget animals and their rights.

September 03, 2005 Katrina seems like a surreal evil plot - of nature?
11:07 pm -
The 16th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court - Chief Justice William Rehnquist (1924-2005) has died in his suburban home in West Virginia from thyroid cancer. His death will 16th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the USA, Chief Justice William Rehnquist - October 1, 1924–September 3, 2005change the balance of the Supreme Court and in return alter the course of our society for years to come. Who will fill his shoes? We hope a moderate shall be his replacement. Will John Roberts be Rehnquist's replacement?
From ( 1980 - 1981 ) John Roberts was a law clerk to then-Associate Justice William Rehnquist on the Supreme Court.

11:01 pm - How does one express someone's agony and pain? Its unquantifiable. To say that one understands the pain of Katrina victims is to insult them. Our president cannot fathom the misery that "those people" are going through, when he says, " I understand your pain". If he did understand their pain remotely, orders to provide aid would had been immediate. The "Comfort" floating hospital ship would had set sail before Katrina struck. It will take another six days for "Comfort" to reach the coast of Louisiana. I guess misery and death can wait till then. This has been a debacle and failure of colossal proportions. Have we succeeded anywhere? Iraq is bungled, Afghanistan is a disaster and now Louisiana tremble is misery and anguish. Dead bloated bodies floating in the streets as rodents eat them... sigh. We thank our readers for their feedback.

A reader from California comments - Hello Streetwhispers
I just caught up reading Streetwhispers  and am writing my heart felt impressions/feelings.  Streetwhispers and I are on the same page in everything that you wrote. I agree with the person that commented also. I watch TV and have read about what is happening in Louisiana, and it is too overwhelming for me to even comprehend what everyone in that area is going through. It upsets me that since we KNEW the hurricane was coming.. we knew what time it was expected to hit land ..  why did it take 5 long, horrendous days to get food and water to the people there. Why weren't there portable toilets at the shelters? Why didn't drug companies (insulin, heart meds) send supplies? Is this too much "hindsight is 20/20"? Too much devastation for anyone to be able to plan this much ahead? I don't think I'd have the strength to survive  ... I hate to be thirsty. I would not last five days. The poor families that have had to leave loved ones behind because they died... how do you just leave them behind? This is the worst natural disaster nightmare we have ever experienced, isn't it?... How will people recover from this? The poor, the needy... it makes me so sad. I saw a husband and wife on the Today Show... going through their destroyed home, their belongings... they were very emotional... and then they said, "well, we are going to go up to (wherever it was) .... we have a cottage there, a small cottage. I was thinking... what the heck? Am I wrong to think what the heck? I was thinking...... but what about the people who don't have a SMALL cottage? (Why are these people on tv?)

I love Streetwhispers and its content.  It is scary for me to see how some people, when they turned into "survival mode", got ugly. Would I be that way? I know that I'd be cranky because I don't like to be thirsty, but why loot tv's?
We should have been more prepared. That is why we have weather people predicting the weather. They were accurate at the time the storm was to hit... too bad they couldn't have helped the Relief people be more organized. I am not too crazy about this Bush guy. He has too many people that could have helped in another country... Is any of this making sense?

September 02, 2005 Disaster Relief "Results are not acceptable"
8:00 pm -
When President Bush says, " People in this part of the world must realize..." is he talking about Americans of New Orleans, or some other nationality? Possibly so, "those people are the disenfranchised blacks of the south. Wish Bush had addressed them as the brave Americans of Louisiana. Rev. Jesse Jackson said it  best, that Louisiana looks like the hold of a slave ship. Its really sad that our leader did not walk the streets of New Orleans.

4:00 pm - When the Chief Executive Officer of USA says that, "Results are not acceptable", is it a public mea culpa or is he passing the buck? He is a religious demon so folks its an act of public penitence, so be considerate. He is only slow in acting in urgent matters. Does anyone know who is in charge of giving orders if not the Prez? We would like to know whom to blame at least. Maybe we should send a SOS to Bangladesh or Sri Lanka to help us in coping with this disaster. After all they are stricken with such misery year after year.

A letter from a reader - Where is my Country -
I cannot believe we are having to call our American citizens "Refugees"!   What has happened in America??
Where is our government???   George Bush is a useless excuse for a President, you cannot tell me that more could not have been done and done immediately!    I am ashamed, ASHAMED of our governments and their federal and state responses to this nightmare.  My husband is a self employed truck driver, and has to pay the price for gas, in order to make a living.  But we are lucky....at least we can get gas!
There is no excuse for what is happening to Katrina victims.  NO EXCUSE!!    If Bush can't handle the situation.....let us, the private citizens go in and bring people out.  I would take a family in.  I would pick up stray animals.  Let me go.  Dead bodies floating in water, being eaten by rats?   If buses could get in to pick up people at the Super Dome, other buses from other resources could be there, taking people out.  Rafts dropped from helicopters to assist people still trapped in homes, water and food airdropped.....
I have a message for you, George Bush....you have turned our wonderful United States into a 3rd world country.  You were not here for your own people.  You have been a plague to the people of this planet.   Dig a hole like Saddam and go hide your face! - Patricia - Virginia

September 01, 2005 Katrina-Devastation-Failure to Act
Not enough can be said about Hurricane Katrina. Misery is everywhere in New Orleans, not to mention heart wrenching plight of helpless souls. Was it natures arrogance towards humans or humans arrogance towards the forces of nature? Katrina created an environment best suited to test our readiness against terror. Terror can come in many forms, this time it was a category five hurricane. Did homeland security fail to act? You must be wondering how does Homeland Security fare in this particular natural catastrophe? Well one can conduct innumerable mock exercises about how to act in the event of a terrorist emergency. Mock exercises always go as planned because all variables are controlled. Guess Katrina hit us with all the unknowns and was uncontrollable .... maximum devastation,  power down, hunger and homelessness, coupled by the outbreak of Cholera and Typhoid. Yet the  help response time has been dismal. We knew the terrorist or the enemy, in this particular case was nature, yet the aftermath in the wake of Katrina was close to the any threat. There are more questions on the Street at this time then answers. Are we over stretched in Iraq that we could not deploy our resources fast enough? Army Corp of engineers who are very competent professionals should had been the first responders on the scene, but they are still not there. Probably they are in Iraq, serving a different political god instead of their country fellows here. No fault of Army Corp or National Guard but the unfortunate predicament they have been placed in by their deployment abroad.

YOUR FEEDBACK

When the saints go marching in Click on icon to play or right click to download to your computer
I am just a lonesome traveller,
Through this big wide world of sin;
Want to join that grand procession,
When the saint go marchinŽin.
Oh when the saint go marchinŽin,
Lord I want to be in that number
When the saint go marchinŽin.

All my folks have gone before me,
All my friends and all my kin;
But I'll meet with them up yonder,
When the saint go marchinŽin.
Oh when the saint go marchinŽin,
I will meet them all up in heaven,
When the saint go marchinŽin.

Come and join me in my journey,
'cause it's time that we begin;
And we'll be there for that judgement,
When the saint go marchinŽin.
Oh when the saint go marchinŽin,
We will be in line for that judgement,
When the saint go marchinŽin.

And when the stars begin to shine
Then Lord let me be in that number
And when the stars begin to shine

When Gabriel blows in his horn
Then Lord let me be in that number
When Gabriel blows in his horn

And when the sun refuse to shine
Then Lord let me be in that number
When the sun refuse to shine

And when the moon has turned the blood
Then Lord let me be in that number
When the moon has turned the blood

And when they crown him King of Kings
Then Lord let me be in that number
When they crown him King of Kings

And when they gather round the throne
Then Lord let me be in that number
When they gather round the throne

And on that halleluja day
Then Lord let me be in that number
On that halleluja day

And while the happy ages roll
Then Lord let me be in that number
While the happy ages roll
