STATEMENT ON THE MURDER OF RACHEL CORRIE

June 29th, 2005 Is the sacrifice worth it- Bush
"Is the sacrifice worth it", said President Bush. The important question whose sacrifice? Its easy to talk about sacrifice when one is getting other peoples children killed. The jingoism of war is so cleverly crafted that anyone who does not support the war is labeled unpatriotic. This type of rhetoric is like, "either you are with us or against us". We need to realize that one can be supportive of the troops and yet be opposed to the war. Our politicians make lofty speeches, claiming how the deaths of our men and women were for a noble cause, yet we bring their body bags in the dark of the night, hidden under the cover or darkness. Heroes dead or alive are to be welcomed in a triumphant manner. We would like to know how many funerals have our politicians attended? Iraq was a free sovereign nation till we occupied it. Saddam was our brain child and not chosen by the Iraqi's. Iraq was never indicted for terrorism by facts accepts via lies of the Republican party and Bush Cheney group. Wish Bush had listened to his father, who said, "
Trying to eliminate Saddam, extending the ground war into an occupation of Iraq... would have incurred incalculable human and political costs. Had we gone the invasion route, the United states could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land." (George H. W. Bush - World Transformed 1998 )

Even though the war was wrong, and unfortunately now that we are in it, we need to complete the process regardless. Leaving it as a failed nation would be disastrous for everyone. Our focus is moving away from Afghanistan which could spell trouble in future.

Pakistan is a Islamic State, yet Islamic justice is selective. Mukhtaran Mai - Who waits for justice as the injustice of delay and harassament by the Musharaff junta is piled on her. Please don't be silent speak up for this woman. Why can't Mukhtaran bibi get justice for a horrific crime like rape? Islamic dictate is clear for a crime like rape where there are witnesses present ... death by stoning. Is Musharaf a male chauvinist pig? For a moment lets turn the tables and see how fast justice is served, were his daughter to take the place of Mukhtaran bibi. By overturning the decision of the high court of Pakistan, the Supreme court has not accomplished anything. When will justice be doled out. Is the Musharaff government in the pockets of the Pakistani landlords aka waderas. Mukhtaran bibi's case if not fairly, judiciously and expeditiously handled is the albatross that may cost Gen Musharaf his dreams of staying in power. USA may loose an important ally on the war on terror if the political opinions changes in Pakistan. Like Bush, Musharaf is loosing his popular appeal.

June 28th, 2005 Reporters and their rights
Reporters being forced to testify and reveal their sources comes as no surprise. What else did one expect after the patriot act, and the lies that led to the war in Iraq. Though we disagree with a lot of Ms. Millers comments and views and but stand and support her right, not to divulge her sources. It is sad that journalists are being made scapegoats when the larger culprits are at larger. Shouldn't someone be responsible for taking the nation to war? Shouldn't they be impeached or fired? Go figure which direction our politics is headed towards as our privacy is violated and our rights eroded. Instead of Judy Miller we think Novak should go to jail for compromising an undercover agent and revealing her name in the press.

Why would anyone in their correct mind think that they could get a pie of the Hilton empire. Cathy Hilton certainly is preaching pretense, as she fulfills her dreams of acting. Wait till Matha, yes we said Matha not Martha comes on reality TV. Yet another ugliness.

June 26th, 2005 Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade
Check out the pictures. The parade has toned down and is more commercial then individual the way it used to be four years ago. Yet it remains to be colorful. Also one would guess that now that being Gay or Lesbian is not so much of a shock, the GL are becoming less outrageous. Are they loosing the
joie de vivre....tapping fingers? Don't forget to see some of the pictures. Local politicians walked ensemble but Hillary and Schumer were missing.
June 25th, 2005 Statues disrobe as half naked lesbians dance
Associated press writes, "With Ashcroft Gone, Justice Department Statues Disrobe".  Seems like a page from the Ayatollah Khomenie's religious revolution in Iran. Women were to be covered like the Justice department Statues by order of Ayatollah Ashcroft. New Yorkers are so blessed that the Statue of Liberty was not draped up. Should the Iranian Government send a Burqa to drape the Justice department statues just incase or for some future use. No wonder justice during the era of Ashcroft was shrouded in mysterious interpretation as he violated personal rights in his messianic role. We guess Ashcroft never succeeded in chasing away the street tramps of 12th street in D.C.

We wish the lesbian celebrating the Gay and Lesbian heritage week in NYC had invited Ashcroft to speak at their rapture. Folks we shall talk about the Hiltons another day so stay tuned. For those of you who do not know.. tomorrow is the Gay and Lesbian Pride Day parade on 5th Avenue in NYC. Wonder which of the politicians will walk to beg for votes.

June 22, 2005 Who wants to be a Hilton
Are TV and reality shows turning into the personal play ground of the rich and famous as they brand their names. Started with Donald Trump in the form of Apprentice, and now we shall see Martha Stewart. Paris Hilton's mother is trying to groom the less fortunate, on the etiquettes of the rich and famous. Did we type etiquettes? hmmmm look at the kids she has spawned. We can't wait to see when she demonstrates, how to eat a burger in a swimsuit and make orgasmic sounds. Who cares which fork to use for salad and how to taste wine ... show us the high quality Hilton act of directing and acting in ones own porn movies and then parlay them into a career. If Paris was a an average Jane from the rest of the country she would be branded a slut instead of Jane having her own brand of products. Keep tuned for more to come on this. Will Paris Hilton's Mom strip to a bikini and leather up in carwash soap as she slides and gives some thrills and chills to a Jaguar? purrrrrr

June 17th, 2005 Michael Jackson again
A reader writes, "
No comments on the Michael Jackson trial??? ". Well we wish Michael all the best and suggest again that he befriends people his own age. Everyone loves kids but not everyone invites strange kids to bed. Michael Jackson is either a very sick man or just a pervert who got off this time. One thing for sure that Michael is having an identity crisis. These days women look more masculine than Michael Jackson... go figure. The poor rich guy is totally messed up. We wish him well and all the best.
June 13th, 2005 Michael Jackson - Jesus juice
Who cares what was the outcome of the Michael Jackson case. The sad part is the media has wasted so much of viewer time, when there are more pressing issues locally and globally to be covering. Guess news these days, unfortunately rating based.

Michael got his due process our advice to him is to stay away from Jesus juice in the presence of kids. Mike you better try befriending people in your own age group and you will be better off.

May 12th, 2005 Idiots in the air -  Your rights
Thanks to all those who kicked the streets to write, but .. hey the street needs some respite too, which off course was punctuated by two idiots flying over Washington in their single engine Cessna. For a while it was total code red over the capital, as politicians and plebeians scrambled out of buildings. Certainly all done in the name of security. What else is being done in the name of security? An issue we all aught to think about and then use our voting rights to remedy by pushing out those politicians who are playing with our individual rights. Dr Ivan Eland, writes about liberty and security at home. With his permission we reproduce his article, "Freedom At Home".

Dr Ivan writes, " True Patriots Should Worry More about Freedom at Home President George W. Bush claims that he is spreading freedom throughout the world. However, for him "freedom" appears to be more a slogan, devoid of content and used to harness U.S. nationalism for his own purposes. <Read full article>

April 30th, 2005 - Ruaway bride
Jennifer Wilbank's fiancée should inhale deep and fall to his knees in prayer, for having been saved totally. Can you imagine how miserable and crazy his life would had been if he married Jennifer, who seems so mentally unstable. John Mason (fiancee) you are one lucky bastard. However Jennifer should be charged and fined and made to pay, after all it was a hoax and tons of tax dollars were spent on looking for her. Oh by the way our friend Ron has been smoking mad, that bloke in England is so upset with the Yankees writing about the Charles bride that he has been cursing streetwhispers ad nauseam. Well Ron, we still think that Charles has very poor taste.

April 25th, 2005, The Arab who perfected culture - Ziryab
Ziryab - The Arab who perfected culture"If you eat asparagus, or if you start your meal with soup and end with dessert, or if you use toothpaste, or if you wear your hair in bangs, you owe a lot to one of the greatest musicians in history." <Read More>.

Yet we call the Arabs as Barbarians without understanding their culture and who the Muslims are and their their influence on our societies.

Probably Charles and Camilla are bored to death with each other and the British folks are still in la la land in love with the Royalty who are nothing but a burden on the British economy. Well dear readers we did get a belated, delayed yet indirect reply from a offended Brit from across the pond. That bloke is hurling stones at the street :)  But we welcome stones and flowers alike after all we are the street.

A reader forwarded their email to us  - Ooooh someone does not like your page ..... Hello Pat, Sorry I have not written before, but will write you a letter later. Just wanted to say, I disagree with some of them slimy comments made about Prince Charles and Camilla. They are not in a position to answer back, so whoever made those comments is nothing but a slime bag. I hope he drops dead. Take care Pat, Will write later - Ron

Charles and Camilla can't defend themselves even if they want to cause they committed adultery and they are guilty and slimy, they even acknowledged their guilt in their vows. So dear Pat whoever you and your friend is, smell the coffee and inhale reality, and thank you for sharing your friends reaction with us. I guess Ron cant write to us directly? Hey Ron do you know when the Queen visited the US she refused to eat a hot dog, saying that her mouth was too small to bite. We feel sorry for the Queens husband. Poor man.

Thank you for directly communicating with us dear reader, we produce your note to us  as received - Seem to me that you are quite a dimwit, unable to know the difference between fact and fiction. Your snide remarks about Price Charles (who is twice the person you ever be) and Camilla are so degrading that you do not deserve to put article son this site. Some of the ignorant Americans like you might believe it, bot forget their own countrymen and there shortcomings. We English are ten times better than you yanks. why you did not even come into the two great wars until it was nearly over, then try and claim that you won them both. ( Fosdebwill@.....com )

We have quite a tempest brewing in a tea cup which could reach hurricane proportions. Sadly our reader is alien to his own history. We have no inclination of emulating Charles and his life style. The man has not  productively earned a quid from his own sweat, in his 50 year old life. We all know the British Monarchy is such  inbred Royalty.  We tend not to get nationalistic at Streetwhispers,  but we do make every effort to keep the facts straight. Churchill almost begged FDR to get involved, to save Britain from the Third Reich, and again the Yankees helped the British in the Falkland Islands. Without the support of US the map of Europe would be different. Seems a lot of the British, not all, are in love with the idea of Monarchy then the purpose it serves. We are the streets of Britain, Iraq South Africa and all the other parts of the world, and our irreverence does not stem from nationalism but from reality and the bravery to challenge the myths and dogmas......... So Fosdebwill aka Ron take no offence, order a pint, sing the star spangled banner burp to the queen and pick lint out of your belly button. Oh by the way mate Camillagate  was produced by a British who seems to have a somewhat similar point of view as the "yankees".

April 24th, 2005 God's rottweiler aka Pope Benedict XVl
The new pope was inaugurated today also known as God's rottweiler turned into a German Shepard. Lets see how much of holy water he sprinkles. Choosing of the Pope is shrouded in so much of secrecy and then followed by pageantry that it makes one sick. The Pope's garb, if valued runs into thousands of dollars. Thought Christ was a carpenter and a  simple man and the church is supposed to follow in the footsteps of Christ. Did you read the story about a teacher sprinkling holy water on school kids in class before they took the exam. Is religion getting out of control or is it too commercial like the Coke or McDonalds. Fast food is clogging up arteries while religious zealots are suffocating the human soul, while the devil rejoices ... whooo hooo. wink wink.

"She stayed for three days with the bodies of her dead family" - Can't help but wonder what has happened to our humanity? We were supposed to be liberators in Iraq. Stories like these are so disturbing .... "She stayed for three days with the bodies of her family who were killed in their home. When the soldiers entered she was in her home with her father, mother, 12-year-old brother and two sisters. <read more>

April 23rd, 2005 Blackwater helo deaths - Iraq
A reader writes - "The six Americans were employed by Blackwater Security Consulting - a subsidiary of security contractor Blackwater USA of Moyock, N.C., which had four employees slain and mutilated by insurgents in Fallujah a year ago." (read this morning on the web).

It was concerning the helicopter shot down in Iraq.  More were killed, but Blackwater Security Consulting is very close to where I live...so it hits a little closer to home.  Tell me why ANYONE would risk their lives to go do a civilian job in Iraq?  And their deaths have been not always quick.  Why aren't these jobs being given to Iraqi citizens...why do we need to be there at all?    Bless their families, and all the others who have suffered an unnecessary death.

I love this web page.  I encourage all my friends and relatives to read it, but I wish I could see more reader contributions.  Maybe if your readers would recommend it to all their friends and family....and don't be afraid to add a comment!  I have, even when I get a snooty response from the administrator.  Free speech is what it's all about!  (PS:  you have things hidden in here....I found some links on pages I didn't know were there.  I especially liked the Saddam clip.) Thanks...I hope you keep it up!
( Norfolk - Virginia )

Dear Norfolk, you can't say we did not post you comment even though you called the administrator snooty. Good for you I think the administrator needs to know how you felt. Actually different pages have different stuff so we encourage our readers to visit all our pages, and explore the links.  We believe in free speech and  your opinion.

April 19th, 2005 Holy Smoke or holy smokes
Same wine but a different bottle. The church needs a total revamp. These are the same guys who decided to overlook the sex scandals till the media and the victims would not shut up. Even then they reassigned the guilty cardinals and priests or sent them to different countries. 5:04 pm

New Pope. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger - 74
Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, 74 ( April 16, 1927 ) of Germany elected as the 256th pontiff. Pope Benedict XVl.  12:40 pmPope Benedict XVl - Jospeh Ratzinger - German Cardinal

The new head of the Catholic Church has been chosen. Bells peel at the Vatican. 1.2 billion Catholics have a new figure head. Sad the 1.2 billion Christians had no say in choosing the new Pope, yet they are expected to follow the new Pope. 12:08 pm
White Smoke, black smoke, smoke up our ...
All eyes are focused on the color of the smoke coming out of the chimney at the Sistine Chapel. One wonders why the secrecy about the election of the Pope. If the Pope is too be the religious leader, his elections should be a transparent process and not a cult like event. Seems like deja vu all over again, like the 2000 elections. There should be a month of public hearings, to be broadcast all around the world and the a vote be cast.
April 18th, 2005
Black smoke - Vatican Divided - Catherine Harris
Seems the cardinals are divided about the next Pope. Are the Cardinals deadlocked? We could certainly send Catherine Harris to the Vatican to select the next Pope instead of elect, ....  the same way 2000 US elections were decided by her.

Thanks to all those who wrote to asking me to start writing again, and even accused me of going on honeymoon with Charles and Camilla. Charles and Camilla honeymoon is even boring to think off and certainly a Prozac event if I went. The Street has been  in one of those silent modes of uncertainty, and carefully watching the world and its local events.

April 09th, 2005
A reader writes -  I
was mesmerized by the funeral of Pope Paul.  I loved watching the beautiful traditional ceremony honoring this great pope.  As I get older, I realized how important it is to keep the old rituals of the mass alive. I cant get motivated to watch the Royal Wedding.  I do wish them happiness (Baltimore  4:06 pm )

Yesterday one of the greatest Popes in history was laid to rest with millions grieving his death. Today Camilla and Charles tie the knot, guess life goes on. Thirty minutes of ceremony, in front of thirty guests and they had to wait 35 years for this day. SW though not a fan of the two, we wish them well, living together finally in holy matrimony. Now that their relationship has been blessed, is legal and in the open, that should put a rest to tabloid journalism. Maybe the British can focus on dissolving the monarchy, which is serving no practical purpose, but a drain on the British coffers. We bet the fashion police will be out today checking the coiffure of Camilla. Wonder if this wedding is hard on the sons of Lady Di and Charles? Hope Camilla and Charles don't produce any more offspring, there is already enough inbreeding in the British Monarchy.  12.02 am.

April 08, 2005  House of Windsor - Cortigiana et Cortigiano
Bet some of the cyber voyeurs on this side of the pond would love to have a look at a webcam that is going to see the two fogeys, say the IDO's. Enjoy the webcam link. This site may be overloaded tomorrow due to traffic. Check out Camillagate

Camilla Parker's new title should not be princess consort but princess courtesan ..  ouch :) . We wrote in Italian the headline would be, British Cortigiana and Cortigiano to be married - at last. The two sinners to wed tomorrow. We love sinners their life is more interesting then that of non sinners. We all love color in our lives. So lets hear about the salacious details. Did you read, Charles is going to pledge faithfulness to Camilla. Does that mean he has not been even faithful to her in his unfaithfulness. We don't blame the Prince for straying. When was the last time when Royalty was loyal or faithful, with a few exceptions. Prince Williams has started much earlier, but lets leave the young lad alone, he needs to enjoy and explore life for all its worth. Its refreshing the British Royalty is not killing their queens like Henry the Vlll. That is why as history records it they broke off from the Catholic Church. Please come back to read more we would love to bloviate about this marriage.

Pope laid to rest now what? Are we ready for a black priest, after all when a black actor tried to play Jesus Christ in a Broadway play in New York, he received death threats.
All grapefruit guzzlers or drinkers be careful, for grapefruit could interfere with your medications. read on >>

April 07, 2005
Also don't forget that Prince Charles is a pretty un-ambitious lover. Recall the secret conversations that the media got hold off. He was telling Camilla that he (Charles) wished that he was Camilla's knickers ...eewww. Probably something about fogy British humor we cant understand on this side of the pond. He seems to be a feckless lover, and lacks the courage and valor, gallantry of which lovers are famous for. Camilla is neither beauty nor brains... so what is she? ... anybody? 7:41 pm
True love ..hmmm are you sure they have true love. They seem like a horny couple. Wonder what is it that they have in common? other than being in an adulterous relationships. Its not SW's intent to be moralistic but surely be outspoken.  Thanks for your views on the double C (Camilla and Charles) ... no we are not talking about her cup size. 3:00 pm

A reader writes - I am so glad that Charles and Camilla are finally getting married.  I think it's clear to everyone that this has always been his one true love, and it has stood the test of time.  She's no beauty either (well, neither is he), so she must have some good qualities that has kept their love going for so long.  With everything to do with the Royal Family having to be so proper, even if it means loveless marriages and snubs by the queen....I'm glad to see a happy ending for these two.  Who knows why we love who we do....we just do.

April 06, 2005
A lot that the media does not cover and is reluctant to show the closeness between the two religions ( Islam and Christianity) which have a lot in common The late Pope John Paul's last major trip to an ancient Omayyad Mosque in Syria four years ago, appealed to Christians and Muslims alike to seek common ground rather than confrontation. "May the hearts of Christians and Muslims turn to one another with feelings of brotherhood and friendship,.."

Today as Doublya (GWB) pays his last respects to the late Pope, lets hope that he comes back transformed with humbleness and devoid of arrogance, which has shaped our foreign policy. Why is Laura Bush wearing a head scarf? After all poor Muslim girls have been ostracized in school for wearing head gear. One wonders if this visit is more political then of love for the Pontiff, after all, including Clinton are not Catholics. Wonder if Laura will look hot in a habit?

Is StreetWhisper's getting very solemn, after all this is the street. Surely y'all have heard about the postponement of Prince Charles and Camilla's wedding. One hopes the British royalty would have a good dental plan. We can't stand their crooked smiles.

April 05, 2005  Look at where you live - Google map
84 Bells -
Too much grieving may land one in a grave yard, so lets celebrate life, as thousands go to pay their last respects to the late pope in Rome where the Church bells peeled 84 times to mark each year of his life. Christians, Muslims, Buddhists and world leaders offered their condolences to the great man, who's papacy preached the gospel of life. Lets celebrate life and touch on something more interesting. Sorry we cant tell you that you can get a glimpse of heaven and hell via the satellite technology, which once was only available to the military. While the free availability of this technology may be cause of concern for many, but its very helpful if you can see a satellite image of your neighborhood. The proponents of privacy need not worry, the images are a few months old and sorry you can't read license plates or see your neighbor sunbathing.  You are dying to check out your neighborhood? Go to the GOOGLE LINK, which bought keyhole corp. and started offering the service for free. Sorry you will not be able to see the crowd in Rome for now. Google's free satellite maps will be limited to North America for now with images covering roughly half of the United States. We checked the site out and find it better than Mapquest .11:00 am

April 04, 2005 Mystery of his last moments
John Paul ll death is saddening yet the secrecy that shrouds his last moments is very troubling. What are the Cardinals hiding from the people? To all those who loved him, have the right to know. No religion or religious leaders personal life should be shrouded in so much secrecy that it should seem like a cult. [ no offence meant ] Its not the Catholic religion being questioned its those who claim to be God's mouth pieces or Vatican media spin masters that we question. The late Pontiff was human first and like all other mortals death came to him. To the Vatican show us his last moments, for no one has given you the right to control what one can see and what one cannot see, if the Catholics are to look towards the Vatican for guidance.

"The worst prison would be a closed heart" - John Paul ll

April 03, 2005 John Paul ll the most seen figure in history.
Pope John Paul ll, died yesterday (1920 - 2005). The youngest man to become the Pope and the most known figure amongst the young Christians. Today he meets his creator the Almighty God. John Paul ll, though respecting the religious difference of other religions, made an effort to reach out across the isle. He spoke of human rights, chastised George Bush about the war in Iraq. Spoke for the Palestinian homeland and prayed with the Buddhist monks. Today quiet envelops the Vatican. The next Pope will have very large shoes to fill. What will be the internal Politics of the Vatican in choosing the next Pope, we shall never know.

If the Pope represents the whole Roman Catholic community, shouldn't the everyday Catholic have a say in the appointment of the Pope.  How much will the new Papal figure change or alter the Bible? Will women be ordained as Ministers or will it remain the exclusive male club? Would the new Pope be a conservative man or will he welcome the homosexuals. Christianity and Islam both monotheistic religions do not approve of homosexuality. They acknowledge that homo sexuality exists but have refused to bless it.  How political will the new Papal figure be? The legacy of Pope John ll will be that of tolerance and humanity. We had a conservative papacy. John Paul ll preached the gospel of life. He was against abortion, euthanasia and some other issues. Even though the Pope had predicted that after the fall of communism there will be a surge in the ranks of the Christians. Unfortunately that has not come true, and neither did he live to see the day.

One wonders what were the last moments of Karl ( John Paul ll )? At this point in his life he had no living family. What were his thoughts and feelings, what were his last un-purged words. Will the Catholics ever tear through the secret walls of the Vatican. Today millions of prayers are going up towards heaven as rosaries get worn out. Let us all hope when the white smoke rises above the Vatican announcing the selection of the new Pope, he is a man of building bridges and embracing religious, cultural and ethnic differences. John Paul ll will be dearly missed. In his honor we shroud SW in black for a day.

April 02, 2005 John Paul ll - His organs failing, shallow breathing
We wonder why the secrecy about the Pope's last moments? Are the cardinals waiting for him to die? Is he being denied life support equipment, after all he was not taken to the hospital. Don't the Christian Catholic's in particular and the concerned world in general  have the right to know? We think this old tradition should be eliminated. In the 21st century why do people have to wait outside the Vatican to see the color of the smoke to be informed if the new Pope has been elected. It sounds more like a cult rite in the selection of the Pope. One wonders if another Cardinal as young as the Pope will ever be elected to the Papacy again. John Paul ll fully utilized the media, yet today his last moments will be shrouded in secrecy. The secrecy of the Vatican seems like the Cardinal Mafia in red caps and robes. Sorry for being a cynic and not trusting but could the Vatican be timing the Popes death for Sunday, that is when they pull all the plugs from his life support systems?.  6:24 am Rome Time

April 01, 2005 Too much God? - Faulty intelligence - Pope
Karol Joseph Wojtyla - The man from Poland, one of the most dynamic Popes is fighting for his life at his residence in Rome. Pope John Paul II may die any moment, his breathing shallow, his infection spread through out his body. The Vatican saying that the Pope is suffering from Cardio circulatory and renal insufficiency. Its reported that the Pope is gone into septic shock. His hours are limited and his breaths measured. Karol waits serenely for the final moments of absolute truth, when his soul shall take flight. When the journey of his mortality ends, may God have mercy on him and bless him for his humanity. The most traveled Pope  in the 2000 years history of the church, speaking eight languages. The Pope is widely loved by all religions and all denominations.

Born Karol Joseph Wojtyla (pronounced Voy-tee-wah) on Born in Wadowice, Poland, on May 18, 1920, Karol Josef Wojtyla was the son of a retired army officer and a school teacher. He studied literature and philosophy and later was a playwright and poet.May 18th 1920 to an administrative officer in the Polish army and a former schoolteacher. He was elected to the Papacy at the age of 58 by the college of Cardinals to lead the Roman Catholic Church. The first non-Italian chosen as Pope in 456 years and the youngest today lays in Rome fighting for his life. Its reported that in his final hours  the Pope has made his peace with the moment of reckoning and appears serene.

Karol was an avid athlete,Wojtyla secretly studied theology during the Nazi occupation of Poland. By the age of 36, he had two doctorate degreess and was a professor of ethics. He became a cardinal at age 47 and led the only moral and social force in Poland that could counter communism. who enjoyed playing soccer as a goalie and took daredevil swims in the flooded Swaka River. An excellent student, developed a love of the theater. For a time his ambition was to study literature and become a professional actor. Karol perused his studies and acting while working as as a stonecutter to support himself under Nazi Germany, which allowed him to hold on to the work permit he needed to avoid deportation and imprisonment. John Paul ll is loved by the very young, for they found themselves relating to him easier. He made religion more palatable for them. He humanized his office. The youth saw him as one of them. The Pope enjoyed hiking, backpacking and kayacking.

Faulty intelligence Certainly Iraqis are the poor victims of our bad intelligence and the political spin masters. Guess the deaths of innocent Iraqi's and US soldiers can be filed under collateral damage by the demigods of jingoism. Unfortunately any voice that was raised contrary to the Bush administration was silenced, by labeling them as unpatriotic. Some of the UN inspectors who were Americans declared categorically that Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction. These inspectors were objective and were the eyes and ears of the agencies. When only intelligence that suits a political agenda is accepted then we are dancing on the cusp of danger. The result of twisting intelligence ( Powel showing that vial at UN) confirms that 1500 American soldiers died and thousands wounded and crippled for life. We went to war with compelling evidence that Iraq had WMD's - yet the only "compelling evidence" that exists, confirms the  Republicans were more interested in attacking Iraq then to see the evidence which there was none.

While we mourn the death of one person, why are we deaf to the plight of others. This article caught our eye about Iraq, "Increasing numbers of children in Iraq do not have enough food to eat and more than a quarter are chronically undernourished, a UN report says. Malnutrition rates in children under five have almost doubled since the US-led invasion - to nearly 8% by the end of last year, it says>>>.

Do we have too much God in our politics or is there any such thing as too much God in ones life? Seems the old adage is correct that adversity reminds one of religion, yet we commit crimes in the name of religion. 12:02 am
